Weekend Wrap Up - BFF Time In Vegas

Oof, late night blogging....we meet again. I swear I'm trying to get better at posting these in a more timely manner.

Anywho, after spending a week in San Diego, I headed back to Vegas with my best friend in tow. I've done the drive from So Cal to Vegas many times....but it's always better when you have company. We were a bit nervous that we'd hit traffic since there seemed to be a standoff just around Baker....which is about 45 minutes to an hour away from Vegas. But we hit zero traffic.....always a bonus.

We stopped and got ourselves "get ready drinks" and headed to our friends house to get ready for some late night fun.

The above is what happens when girls take over a dude's bathroom. If you don't know....girls like to get ready together....so if you don't have a double sink or large counter space in your spare bathroom...be prepared to share your master bathroom, kay?

When I was listing off things we could possibly do, my BFF (Jen) perked up when I mentioned karaoke at a local bar. We met up with my friend Erin, of Vintage NV, at Dino's. We sang, we laughed, we selfie'd and drank. Nothing starts a weekend off right then that combination right there.

We may or may not have stopped at a taco shop on the way home and indulged on greasy Mexican food....I plead the 5th :)

Saturday morning couldn't have been more perfect. Neither one of us wanted to get out of bed. So we just laid there watching Cruel Intentions.....you guys remember that movie?! I probably watched it a million times and that was a morning well spent!!

Eventually, we got up and headed over to West Coast Tattoo Parlor to meet up with Ryan (see his portfolio here) to finish up a side piece he started back in October.

I had these kanji characters done about 8 years ago
this is the canvas Ryan had to work with
I had decided I wanted a cherry blossom tree incorporated around the Kanji letters. Back in October, I told Ryan what I wanted and we worked together to get the desired results. He took sharpies and hand drew the design. Below are progressive pictures of the 4 hour session:

I fell in absolute love. I'm not going to lie....there were some ROUGH moments. So...fast forward to Saturday afternoon and I was like....this is only supposed to be a couple of hours, I should be fine.
It wasn't as bad as the first session, but it was still pretty rough. It was just shading, putting in color and touching up the Kanji letters. There were a couple of moments where I felt a very a hot burning sensation in places where Ryan wasn't even tattooing. Weird nerves getting hit. Jen was a trooper and she sat for two hours while Ryan completed this beauty.

Ryan did an amazing job and he lets me curse at him and call him mean names....which is cathartic in its own right :)

Freshly inked, we decided to grab food and go back home to veg on the couch, turn on Netflix and start season 1, episode 1 of Friends.....one of our favorite shows to quote to each other. It wasn't long before both of us fell asleep. We both woke up and fell back asleep several times. We even contemplated staying in for the night. However, we are huge fans of the JV Allstars....and since Jen isn't in Vegas often....we had to go! We both got ready in a  shockingly small amount of time.....more so me than her :p Then we headed out to Twin Peaks by Planet Hollywood. If you are a Vegas local or are in Vegas visiting....look them up....they are spectacular.

We met up with a couple of friends and closed the place down! For those of you who don't know....Vegas closes. There are 24 hour places, but those are bars that are off the strip and are spots where locals hang out. The casinos are always open....they want your money :p but bars and restaurants shut down. Once we got kicked out, we went back to our friend's house and stayed up until 4 to reminisce and laugh about old pictures.

Sunday morning came too soon. I will always say - driving back to So Cal is a pain. The earlier you leave the better. People like to stay and hang out....but I can't. Especially with Jen having to go back all the way to San Diego, we got on the road asap!

The end of a trip is always hard. There were a funny conversations but also good chunks of time where it was quiet.....we did Vegas right.

Hope you guys had a great first full weekend of 2017!

Cheers!!

Essentially,

Evie xoxo
