Pinup About Town - Downtown Grand

Well...we've visited the North end of The Strip when we stayed at the Westgate. Then we decided to head west to visit Red Rock Hotel & Casino. March took us downtown to the Downtown Grand.

Damn palm tree was all up in my way.

The Downtown Grand used to be Lady Luck back in the day. It's located within walking distance from the Fremont Street Experience. It's also directly across the street from a few of my favorite places: Pizza Rock (killer food), Sidebar, Triple George and Hogs & Heifers. It's also very close to the relatively new Mob Museum. There definitely isn't a lack of things to do while staying downtown.

I checked in on Monday, March 21st. The gentleman behind the counter (I wish I remembered to take down his name) was so nice. He was quick and efficient while still maintaining small talk to avoid any awkward silences.

We got a room on the 15th floor with a view of the north side of the Fremont Street Experience.

The room was pretty decent....very red, but comfortable.

I'm a sucker for a good bathroom. Even though there wasn't a massive tub to do a nice Lush bath, the bathroom was spacious and had a great shower.

To top it off, there was a vanity area - always helpful when one person is using the shower.

Before the hubs cam down, I grabbed a few shots of the hotel. The casino has a small floor, but as someone who doesn't gamble, that didn't bother me much. There is a center bar and a few places to eat.

Left: gorgeous chandeliers. There is a piano here also. Not sure what goes down here, but looks like fun!

The pool area looked pretty awesome. The pool itself was rather small.....BUT there is a covered bar area, tons of lounge chairs / sofas, tables and an area with a bunch of games. I was really looking forward to playing corn hole with the hubs....but the pool area closes at 7....womp womp womp.

For the evening, the hubs and I decided to walk around to see what we could see. If you follow me on Instagram, you have already seen these...but here are a couple of things we found on our walk.

Meerkats made out of scrap metal

Sorry for the blurry photo....but this is the Life Cube Project. It's art, against art, within art, on top of art. It's beautiful! It has lights, it has music - it screams creativity. You write down hopes, dreams, goals...anything you want. This Saturday at 10pm they burn it....yup burn it. It's pretty awesome and I totally dig it.

We ended our night at Mickie Finnz to watch one of our favorite bands - JV Allstars. They never disappoint and are freakin' funny. Somehow we started to call out TV show themes - and they played it!! How these guys know all this stuff is beyond me.

With Viva just around the corner...those of you who haven't booked your room.....or just decided to go and found out that The Orleans is booked...this is a good alternative. The price was great....but since April is more of a tourist month, I can't comment on what the prices may be.

  1. Ooooh, I love seeing the parts of Vegas that I've never visited! Every time we've gone, we've pretty much stayed on the Strip, except for the time I met my friend and her family there and stayed at her parents' place in Henderson. The Mob Museum sounds so neat!

That hotel room looks lovely, though red walls with red chairs might actually be a little too much red for me. Never thought that would happen. It sounds like you two had a super fun night on the town!

My favorite places to stay are Paris and Excalibur, which was where we were staying when Jeff proposed :).
